Dr Jacqueline Wier

School Director Research and Scholarship & Research Supervisor

School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work

Jacqueline is the Director of Research within the School of Nursing Midwifery and Social. Her areas of interest are women's health and nursing pedagogy.

I hold both an Adult Nursing, Mental Health Nursing and Midwifery registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. I hold a PhD in Law, where my research explored the current regulation of midwifery practice in the UK. I have worked across all of these health sectors within the National Health Service in the UK in both the acute and community settings. I have had previous experience of working in South Africa as a a midwife and supported students in this role. Since becoming an academic, I have worked within the Midwifery team as a Module Lead for the Law and Ethics in Midwifery Practice module, as well as being the Faculty Level 7 Research Modules Lead for postgraduate taught students. I provided supervision and support for a number of students who were . I am supporting four postgraduate research students and have taken students to completion of their studies as well as being an external examiner for a student completing their doctoral thesis and have conducted a Viva with them. I am currently the Director of Research within the School of Nursing Midwifery and Social Work, and have been responsible for developing research within the School. This includes the implementation of an annual School Research Conference, Writing for Publication workshops and Creative Methodology workshops. My areas of research include women's health and pedagogy.

I have been a sessional lecturer, lecturer, senior lecturer and currently I hold principal lecturer status. During my academic career, I have been a module and cohort lead to a number of different students, both undergraduate and postgraduate. I lead the recruitment of students within the Midwifery team and have implemented social media groups to develop a sense of community for students. I am currently the Professional Lead for Mental Health a role which has oversight of the mental health curriculum and which ensures that the education of students is in accordance with regulatory standards.
