Mrs Helen Hatter

Associate Head Foundation Years and Undergraduate Apprenticeships

School of Nursing

Helen is a Senior Lecturer, leading on the development of Nursing Apprenticeships and supporting the development of the wider healthcare workforce.

Since completing Project 2000 from Frances Harrison College of Healthcare in 1993, I have had extensive experience in community nursing, working in social care and primary care across Kent and in mental health within the field of eating disorders. I then followed my interest in education by working in clinical governance, practice development and workforce development across acute and community healthcare.

I have worked at the University since 2018, predominately within BSc Adult Nursing but have had a number of roles across the wider nursing programme provision, including Course Director for Nursing Associate Apprenticeship and Professional Lead for Nursing Associate.

Outside of the University, I am also External Examiner for an undergraduate Nursing Associate programme at University of Bedfordshire.

I completed my MSc in Leadership and Management at University of Birmingham. My dissertation explored the perception of my voice in leadership role.

I currently support students within the Masters programmes (MSc Health and Wellbeing, MSc Advanced Clinical Practice, PGCert Healthcare Practice-Fellows) primarily through their leadership studies I also supervise students completing their MSc dissertations.

I have developed a number of apprenticeship focused courses and have a bias towards creative methods to relay knowledge.

I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

I have a developing interest in how we develop our nursing workforce and what does that role transition look like.

I am an External Examiner for an undergraduate Nursing Associate programme at University of Bedfordshire.
