Mrs Hazel King

I have been working at Christ Church since 2012, initially seconded on a part-time basis from school, before taking on a permanent position in 2015. I teach on a range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules, predominantly on Primary Mathematics. I am the Year 1 Lead Tutor for BA (Hons) Primary Education.

I have spent seventeen years as a class teacher in a range of primary schools in Hampshire and Kent. As a Specialist Maths Teacher and experienced mathematics subject lead, I have been involved in a number of projects in Kent primary schools to strengthen the learning and teaching of mathematics. I currently lead the BA (Hons) Primary Education route into teaching at Christ Church.

I am currently a member of the Canterbury Teacher project team, seeking to research the seven generations of Canterbury-trained teachers. This is linked with the 60th anniversary of Canterbury Christ Church University in 2022.

I recently joint-authored two chapters of a book on mentoring trainee and newly qualified primary school teachers, published in 2021; one chapter is about partnerships in mentoring and the other is based around issues within mentoring trainee teachers of primary mathematics.
