Mrs Hannah Duncan

Senior Lecturer in Primary ITE and Academic Sessional

Early Years and Primary Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and School of Teacher Education

Senior Lecturer in Primary ITE.

After studying the oboe at the Royal Academy of Music and gaining performing experience with ensembles across the UK and Europe I trained to teach at CCCU through the School Direct route. I have taught in primary schools in Kent and London, held a music coordinator role in school and mentored student teachers in the classroom. I am the music tutor here at CCCU and teach across our BA and PGCE routes.

I joined CCCU as a sessional member of staff in 2021 after completing a part time MA in Early Childhood Education and teaching online English and Maths sessions for Key Stage 2 children during the lockdowns. I became a Senior Lecturer in Primary ITE in February 2023 and enjoy teaching on modules across the BA curriculum in addition to focusing on the music provision for BA, PGCE and School Direct courses.

'My area of interest is flexible working in schools and I am currently completing a part time PhD looking at male and female teachers' experiences of working flexibly in the secondary sector and its impact on their career progression.

I have contributed a book chapter titled 'Is there a parental penalty in education?' to Women Ed's third book and spoke at their 2023 global conference in London on the theme. I am also developing links with our partnership schools and their music leads working on staff development, raising the profile of music within schools and supporting the experiences and development of our CCCU students in teaching primary music.
