Mrs Gillian Dolbear

Principal Lecturer (Learning and Teaching)

Gillian is Principal Lecturer (Learning and Teaching) and Course Director for PgCert Musculoskeletal Ultrasound.

My qualifications are FCR, PFHEA, MSc, PgC L&T (HE), DCRR and DMU.

I am also a registrant with the Health and Care Professions Council and a Member of the British Medical Ultrasound Society. My areas of specialism and interest include diagnostic imaging, sonography, point of care ultrasound (PoCUS) and sonography education.

My previous clinical work experiences include twenty-one years as a Diagnostic Radiographer, alongside eighteen years as an Advanced Practitioner Sonographer. I also volunteered as a School Governor (including two years as Vice Chair of Governors) at St George’s Church of England Foundation School from 2007 to 2012.

My teaching career spans from 2001 to the present, and I have been Course Director for several courses throughout this timeframe. I have led and taught on a wide variety of modules encompassing academic levels 0 (Foundation Year), 4, 5 and 6 (BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography) through to Level 7 ultrasound modules. I have been responsible for and taken part in, numerous successful validations/revalidations and most recently, have co-led on the approval of a suite of microcredentials with an external partner. I have been a Principal Lecturer 1 since 2015 and currently take part in Internal Scrutiny Panels/Critical Reading Groups across the University.

An investigation of the adverse outcome of pregnancy at a District General Hospital: the relationship between sonographically detected abnormalities and those at birth or termination; and a comparison with the literature.

This was a five year, four-module MSc research project undertaken from 1998 to 2002 on a sample group of 7500 fetuses on behalf of East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust. The findings of the research led to changes in the obstetric ultrasound protocols for the benefit of clients.
