Mrs Gayle Le Moine

Academic Sessional

School of Nursing

Gayle is a Senior Lecturer in Child Nursing.

I completed my Dip HE Nursing (Child) at CCCU as part of Project 2000 in 1998, and upon qualification went to work on a general paediatric ward. During my time working on the unit I gained good knowledge of orthopaedics, oncology and long-term medical conditions. I also undertook my BSc (Hons) in Healthcare Practice. I love the variety that general paediatrics brings, the fact that no two days are ever the same, and you are constantly being challenged and are always learning.

During my time on the ward I became interested in the student journey and placement experience, training first as a mentor so that I could support students when on placement with us and latterly as the education link nurse, being responsible for allocation of mentors, devising student off duty and liaising with the university to ensure that quality and standards were met. It was within this role that I was offered some sessional work coming into the university to help with the clinical skills module, and I have never looked back since. One session turned into 2, which turned into a module, then a part-time post. I then finally moved to the university full time in 2013. I love being able to share my knowledge and skills with students within university, and being able to play a very small part in shaping the childrens' nurses of the future.

Since working at CCCU, I have undertaken the role of placement lead 2010-2021, professional lead for children's nursing from 2014-2017, and latterly Course Director. These varying roles have given me a good insight into the student journey and a good understanding of curriculum and education standards. I have also completed a PGCLT (HE) and an MA in Education.

I have a real interest in curriculum design and my masters research was examining simulation as a teaching modality.

I have worked at CCCU since 2005, teaching a variety of subjects informed by my 15 years of working in acute general paediatrics. I have also undertaken my PGCLT (HE) which helped me to understand and develop my teaching skills.

Within my current role, I have been responsible for leading curriculum re-approvals which has allowed me to draw on the learning from my teaching qualification and masters, and develop innovative teaching and assessment strategies which appeal to a variety of learners.

I teach on a number of different modules due to my general paediatric background.

I am really interested in curriculum design and innovative teaching modalities, including simulation. I also continue to be passionate about clinical practice learning.

I have been an external examiner since 2015, acting as a critical friend to ensure that quality and standards are maintained.
