Senior Lecturer in Advance Clinical Practice

School of Nursing

Esther is a Lecturer for the MSc Advanced Practice Program at CCCU, and Cardiology Clinical Nurse Specialist for Medway NHS Foundation Trust.

Current role: I am a Lecturer for the Advanced Clinical Practice Program at Canterbury Christ Church University. I am module lead for the modules Pathophysiology Diagnostics and Decision Making in Advanced Practice, as well as deputy for 12-Lead ECGs and the Cardiac Arrhythmias module. In addition, I am a Personal Academic Tutor and Lecturer for the Non-Medical Prescribing course.

I also work clinically as a Cardiac Nurse Specialist for Medway NHS Foundation Trust.

Areas of special interest: Acute Coronary Syndromes and stable angina, ECG interpretation and Advanced Clinical Practice. I am particularly interested in career progression and the development of nurses in cardiology.

Qualifications: MSc in Advanced Practice, PGC in Non-Medical Prescribing, PGC in Coronary Heart Disease and BSc in Adult Nursing.

I have been focused and passionate about cardiology since I qualified in 2004 and have no end of admiration for the ever-evolving science and research continually driving the specialty forward. I believe very strongly in patients receiving the very best of care available to them, and that nurses across the country should be strong, dynamic and empowered to deliver the necessary cardiology services. Teaching has always been a priority in my practice, and investing in the future of the cardiology nursing workforce brings endless rewards.

My teaching career began in April 2021 at CCCU when I joined the Advanced Clinical Practice course. Prior to this, I was invited as a guest lecturer for the 12 Lead ECGs and Cardiac Arrhythmias Module.

My research interests include career progression in Cardiology Nursing and Advanced Clinical Practice.

I am an Ordinary Member of the British Association for Nursing in Cardiovascular Care (BANNC) Council and member of the British Cardiovascular Society (BCS).
