Mrs Erin King

Principal Lecturer in Social Work

School of Allied and Public Health Professions

Erin is a registered Social Worker with Social Work England, and Course Director for the BA (Hons) Social Work course.

I have been a qualified Social Worker since 2007, having worked as an Adult Social Worker on a Community Learning Disability Team, Younger Person's Physical Disability Team and Adult Locality Team for a council in the north-west of England. In 2014, I became a part-time academic at the University of Manchester and in 2015 accepted a full-time post as a Lecturer in Social Work and Practice Learning.

I have worked at CCCU since July 2020, becoming the Academic Lead for Social Work Placements. In September 2022, I changed roles and became the Course Director for the BA (Hons) Social Work course. The focus of my role is to lead and develop the BA (Hons) Social Work course, ensuring that the student voice is central to the development of an innovative and contemporary social work curriculum. I have a lead role in Interprofessional Education within the School.

My areas of interest are adult safeguarding, IPE and social work simulation.

I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

I am Module Lead for the skills days on the MA and BA social work courses, the Level 4 Social Work in Context module and, from September 2025, the Level 6 Leadership, Professionalism and Specialist Knowledge in Social Work module.

My research interests are related to critical discourse in adult safeguarding.

I am the Co-chair of the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) Kent Branch and have been an elected member of BASW England Committee from 2019 to 2021. I have also delivered training to social workers in Belarus in 2013 and 2016.
