Miss Enuma Moneke

I am a qualified Solicitor and a Lecturer-in-Law with the School of Law, Policing and Social Sciences.

I joined Canterbury Christ Church University as a doctoral student 2019 and accepted a lectureship in 2022. Before this time, I worked as a Senior Research Fellow with the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Nigeria where I also served as the Deputy Coordinator of the Centre for Continuing Legal Education of the Institute. I am a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria as well as a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales (not currently practicing).

I hold a Masters’ degree from the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. I have extensive knowledge and experience in Housing Law and Debt following years of successful law practice with Haringey Law Centre, London.  A scholar, an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) proponent and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, my research interest is in the realm of International Commercial Arbitration and International Investment Arbitration, in which areas I have published works.

I also have a keen interest in the Law of Investment Treaties and the Relationship between Business and Human Rights, which form the basis of my PhD work. I  have also authored works on Maritime Law, Constitutional Law and Corporate Governance.

At the undergraduate level, I lead and teach the Commercial Law, Corporate Law and Individual Study 1 & 2 modules. I also contribute to the Law in Society module. For postgraduate teaching, I lead the Dissertation module and also contribute to the Current Legal Issues in Business and Investment Treaty Arbitration modules. My teaching mandate extends to marking, moderation and curriculum development.

As a Research Fellow with the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, I contributed to the Centre for Continuing Legal Education's  continuous professional development training programme by teaching law professionals. I taught topics on Arbitration, Contract Drafting and Legal Writing.

My research areas of interest are International Investment Law (Law of Investment Treaties), International Investment Arbitration,  International Commercial Arbitration and Corporate Accountability and Human Rights. In particular, I am interested in exploring possible avenues for closing the accountability gap that exists in the realm of Business and Human Rights.
