Based in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education

I am a university Initial Teacher Education lecturer and PhD student working in the field of arts education for Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) where I have worked since 2007. I have submitted my thesis to the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and University College London Institute of Education (UCL IOE) where I received a Bloomsbury Colleges Scholarship. Within the field of Initial Teacher Education I have been proactive in developing the curriculum and developing new approaches to supporting trainees on a variety of routes into teaching including Teach First, School Direct and PGCE. I spent the academic year 2017-18 undertaking fieldwork in North India, observing music teaching and learning contexts.

I am an Associate Member of the Chartered College of Teaching and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Most recent projects have focussed on the autonomy of Single Person Music Departments and the pedagogies used by community musicians. I am the recipient of a Bloomsbury Scholarship to study Cognitive Aspects of Indian Music: How children learn to compose and improvise in an oral tradition. I review journal articles for the SOAS Journal of Postgraduate Reseach.
