Dr Daniel Salter

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Course Director

School of Psychology and Life Sciences

I joined the Clinical Psychology Doctorate programme at CCCU in 2006 and am now Director of CBT programmes at the Salomons Institute of Applied Psychology.

I am an experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist, with specialisms in CBT training, practice and research.

I gained my PhD at UCL. The study was embedded within a Dept. of Health funded longitudinal research project investigating the relationship between childhood abuse and neglect, and subsequent perpetration of abuse.

As such, I gained insight and knowledge of developmental psychopathology, specifically concerning continuities between early experiences and adult difficulties. I subsequently achieved a clinical doctorate and have practised since then as a Clinical Psychologist and later a BABCP accredited CBT therapist, treating adult clients from diverse backgrounds presenting with a range of common mental health problems.

In parallel, I have worked in academia, currently as Principal Lecturer and Director of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Programmes at CCCU, with responsibility for training High Intensity CBT therapists as part of the DoH IAPT initiative.

I have also been responsible for the design, delivery and evaluation of a number of bespoke CBT training programmes for public services and private practitioners.

I am Course Director and Deputy Chair of the Modules Achievement Board for the PG Dip in Psychological Therapies: CBT.

I teach in a range of the modules of this course, depending on need.

I have also held responsibility for the CBT Teaching on the DClinPsy courses at CCCU (for 6 years) and the University of Leeds (for 3 years).

I am actively engaged in Adult Mental Health research, supervising several CBT-related PhD, DClinPsych and MSc projects.

My most recent publication was of a research project investigating the experiences of IAPT service users who displayed negative change following their treatment.
