Mr Daniel Marsden

Daniel is a Senior Lecturer in Learning Disabilities.

Daniel Marsden qualified as RNLD in 1998 and has practiced in various positions and roles in children’s, community, acute hospitals and as a Consultant Nurse, both in NHS and independent services and since 2017 has commenced on an academic career pathway.

Passionate about person centred care, nursing and practice development, Daniel has several funding awards and publications, including MSc research project, a participatory action research project. Daniel has been involved in founding a number of organisations to facilitate community inclusion with people with learning disabilities, including WeLDNurses, Kent Surrey Sussex Learning Disability Community of Practice, and Anchorians Equal Teams Football Club - administered and run by and for people with learning disabilities. A committed practice developer, Daniel is an International Fellow of the England Centre for Practice Development, has been a past member of the RCN Learning Disability Nursing Forum and is an editorial board member of Learning Disability Practice. Daniel is keen to develop communities that are committed to inclusion and participatory research intent on care and support that is person centred.

Previous experience leading on Assessment and Exams, Module lead, and teaching at Level 4-7 MSc and BSc Learning Disability, Nursing, Radiography, Emergency Care, and Return to Practice courses, in particular to learning disabilities and autism, while also core topics relating to nursing, including practice development and research.

My research interest relates to participatory methods guided by practice development methodology particularly in the areas of learning disabilities and autism. I have undertaken work in relation to employment, healthcare access, workforce competences, social media and transgender. I have also been involved in the development of local national and international communities of practice inquiry. 

I work closely with Kent Surrey Sussex Learning Disability Community of Practice, and the International Collaboratory of Intellectual and Developmental Disability Nurses and their partners.
