Dr Daba Chowdhury

At present, I am a Reader in Digital Entrepreneurship at the Christ Church Business School in Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU)

I joined CCCU in October 2022. I joined the university to provide strategic and academic leadership in research, knowledge exchange and postgraduate education, and to contribute to the development and operation of a joint research partnership for the supervision of doctoral students. I graduated in Computer Science and Engineering (BSc) from Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey and then completed my MBA and PhD at the University of Plymouth.

Prior to joining CCCU; I was an Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship and Marketing in the Suffolk Business School at the University of Suffolk (UoS). I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I have worked in higher education for over 20 years. My skills include technology, innovation, creativity, and improving student employability and entrepreneurial development and Knowledge Management. Having extensive knowledge of Universities, and being able to build strategic partnerships with companies and communities across the globe, I have great networking skills. Besides establishing new centers, managing large budgets, establishing new teams, and ensuring efficient processes and solid governance, I have also successfully managed a number of new projects.

As an academic, over the last twenty years, I have been responsible for developing undergraduate and postgraduate courses: MSc in Business and Management and MSc International Business and Management, where I introduced international entrepreneurship and digital entrepreneurship modules as core elements within the programs. Alongside this, with experience in national and international higher education, my pedagogical engagement has been wide, drawing on different higher education institutional approaches. I have been able to contribute to pedagogical development through teaching, research, and external collaboration and partnership.

In terms of teaching contribution, I have developed and delivered modules on Entrepreneurship, International Entrepreneurship, Technology/Digital Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Creativity, Research Methods (Quantitative), Digital Marketing, International Marketing, Entrepreneurship in Family Business, Global Business Management, Knowledge Management and Information System. The development of these modules is framed in relation to the changing needs of industry and student skills requirements; for example, last academic year I delivered a module on Entrepreneurship in Family Business, which reflected the changes in digital Entrepreneurship brought about through COVID-19. In addition, I have embedded blended learning techniques within my modules and did so before the online delivery brought about by covid-19, which I see as a key element in student learning and development. I have also created the PhD in Entrepreneurship strand at CCCU.

I known for my focus on student experience and technology assisted learning where I have also introduced Gamification into the curriculum using tools such as SimVenture. I have extensive experience regarding PhD and DBA supervision with my specialism in the field of Entrepreneurship, Marketing and Knowledge Management. I have also well external and internal research examination experience from UK and abroad.

I have published over 30 papers in refereed academic journals, conference proceedings, 7 book chapters, and 2 magazine articles. I have also presented my research papers at globally esteemed conferences such as the British Academy of Management Conference (BAM), the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ISBE).
