Education and Student Success

I joined CCCU in July 2020. I am the Course Director for the PGCAP and UCAP.

I joined CCCU in July 2020. I am the Course Director for the PGCAP and UCAP and an assessor, reviewer and mentor for Access HE fellowship applicants on the MAP:HE scheme. Another key element of my role is supporting and promoting learning excellence, enhancing the student experience and aiding staff in developing excellent learning and teaching practice.

I am currently studying for the Doctorate in Education, researching into the student experience of academic misconduct processes. I hold a Masters in English Language Teaching (Applied Linguistics) and a Masters in Texts in History (Literature), both from the University of Reading, a Professional Diploma in Management from the University of Leicester and the Diploma TESOL from Canterbury Christ Church University. I have been teaching in higher education in the UK and China since 2001.

As lead for Academic Integrity for staff/pedagogical perspective, I am responsible for the mandatory staff training, Help Navigating Academic Misconduct, which I co-deliver with Student Resolutions and Casehandling as well as the Academic Integrity Toolkit. I also oversee updates to the Academic Integrity Policy and provide bespoke training on request. Additionally, I am a member of the European Network for Academic Integrity working groups in Academic Integrity Policies and Addressing Unauthorised Content Generation.

I set up and manage the Spotlight on Best Practice in HE podcast which is hosted on Spotify and am host for the Enhancing Academic Practice series. Contact me if you are interested in doing a podcast to promote your own examples of excellent practice, would like help getting started or want to set up your own series that could be hosted under this podcast umbrella.

Other projects I am involved in include organising the internal and Universities at Medway Learning and Teaching Conferences, working with the Students’ Union on preventative academic misconduct approaches and supporting staff new to research and publication through the From Assessment to Article workshop (delivered in collaboration with the Learning & Research Librarians).

My research interests include compassionate and educative approaches to academic misconduct, the impact of PGCAP/PGCert on career development and supporting second/early career academics into research.

I am a Senior Fellow of Advance HE.

Additionally, I am a reviewer for the Journal of Learning Development in Higher Education and an External Examiner for the University of London.
