I trained at Canterbury Christ Church University graduating in March 2006. Immediately after qualifying as a children's nurse I moved to London and began work at a large London teaching hospital where I worked in a variety of acute paediatric areas. I returned to Kent in 2009 to work on a local general paediatric ward where I worked for several years before leaving to work as a community children's nurse. Throughout my career I have prioritised my continuing professional development completing a lot of post graduate study and research, regularly returning to Canterbury Christ Church University where I have felt part of a community that actively encourages and supports its students.
Whilst working in my community nursing role I discovered my passion for caring for children with long term conditions and for those receiving end of life care. I have always enjoyed teaching students but it was in this role that I was able to develop my teaching skills through providing training and education to other professionals as well as student nurses, children and their families. This role helped me realise how much I love teaching so I was delighted to join the university as a lecturer with the child nursing team in August 2020. I am passionate about interprofessional working and education and so as well as teaching on the child nursing course I also teach on the foundation year in health and wellbeing.
