Ms Caroline Millar

I joined CCCU as an Associate Lecturer in English Literature and Creative and Professional Writing in 2019 and I am currently Researcher for the National Oracy Forum. 

My primary teaching interests are in Creative Writing and English Literature. As well as lecturing at CCCU, I have also taught modules on English Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Kent, CityLit, Kent Adult Education and in community settings.

I completed my PhD in Text, Research as Practice in 2025 in the School of English at the University of Kent. My thesis, 'Estuarine: The Betweenness of Place', is an interdisciplinary study, exploring walking and writing practices in the post-industrial edgelands of the Thames Estuary. By developing innovative methodologies for reading and writing with edgelands, my research interrogates questions of marginality, stigma, displacement, and urban policy, asking what entangled encounters with the estuary can reveal about our overlooked landscapes.

I am a member of the English Association and Nate (the National Association for Writers in Education).
