Mrs Caroline Digby-Bowl

She obtained a first class BSc (Hons) Sport Sciences degree from Brunel University in 2000, and completed some postgraduate research at Liverpool John Moores University, before moving to CCCU. She previously held the post of Year 1 Tutor for the Sport & Exercise Science degree at CCCU for a number of years, until recently, and is in charge of developing the sport & exercise science modules on the Foundation degree.

Caroline has experience in all methods of biomechanical analysis (high-speed and three-dimensional kinematics, kinetics, plantar pressure measurements, and electromyograhpy), and is module leader for:

Caroline is currently completing her HEA Fellowship application.

Caroline enjoys investigating most areas of biomechanics, but has a particular interest in three-dimensional motion anlysis and gait analysis, and is currently working on two research projects in this area. The first is a project investigating stability and falls risk in older haemophiliac patients alongside Dr Mathew Brown at CCCU, and a NHS physiotherapist at the Kent Haemophilia & Thrombosis Centre, Canterbury. The second project is an investigation of the effects of infant carriage systems on the gait of the wearer with Dr Mathew Brown.

In addition to this, Caroline has been, and continues to be, involved in some work with colleagues in sport & exercise psychology on the effects of hero imagery on performance, and some initial findings of this work are to be presented by Dr Mark Uphill at the DSEP Conference of the British Psychological Society in December 2015. Caroline has been involved in sport performance consultancy work via SportsLab at CCCU, most notably in golf swing assessments.

Caroline has also been involved in some work on Technology Enhanced Learning & Teaching (TELT), investigating the use of Blackboard tools to monitor student attendance and engagement as part of her former role as Year 1 Tutor.

Caroline has presented at a number of national and international conferences, and was invited to present her work at the RSscan International Footscan(R) User Meeting in Prague, Czech Republic in August 2005. When not teaching and researching the area, Caroline enjoys participating in most sports. She is a former club, Brunel University (West London) and county hockey player, an ex-footballer for Liverpool John Moores University and several local sides, and played gaelic football at both Brunel University (West London) and Liverpool John Moores University in several British Championships. She was selected to represented the North West Universities in gaelic football, and was captain of the first ever British Universities Ladies Gaelic Football team, playing in the inaugural match against the Irish Universities in Belfast, NI in 2004. Caroline is a British Canoe Union 1 Star Canoe/Kayaker, and has a number of coach leader awards. She currently plays tennis and swims regularly, alongside participating in group fitness classes.

She is also an avid sports, and Ipswich Town FC, fan, and regularly attends sports events in the UK (including football, athletic & cricket fixtures), as well as enjoying watching sports from across the world when on her travels (Chicago Cubs baseball, New York Knicks basketball, Toronto Maple Leafs ice-hockey).
