Dr Carolina Silveira

I joined CCCU in 2021 and I am a Lecturer in Sociology and Criminology

I completed my BA (Hons) at the University of Edinburgh before receiving an MA in European Studies from the University of Bath and an MA in Research Training in Social Sciences from Humboldt Universität, Berlin.

I joined CCCU in 2021 after completing a PhD at the University of the West of Scotland. I am now appointed as a Lecturer in Sociology and Criminology at CCCU. My research looks at the construction of Scottish identity through Stand-up comedy. My academic interests lie in politics, identity, nationalism, humour, and discourse analysis.

I currently lead the following modules:

  • Contemporary Issues in Sociology (Foundation year)
  • Becoming a Sociologist (First year)
  • Crime and Social Harm (Second year)

Prior to working at CCU, I taught on a range of social science subjects including Sociology, British Politics, International Relations, Political Theory, and Research Methods (Postgraduate)

I am particularly interested in questions of identity and politics.

My PhD research focused on the construction of Scottish identity through comedy.
