Mr Anthony Clarke

Senior Lecturer

School of Teacher Education

Based within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education

I previously worked as a primary deputy-head and a head teacher in schools in Kent . I have also worked in primary schools in London and have taught English in Spain, Germany and the Netherlands. I am currently the year one lead for the BA ( QTS) programme and teach across the BA and PGCE programmes.  This role also involves dealing with the pastoral and academic needs of the students. I have a passion for languages and teach students how to deliver languages in the primary classroom. I also coordinate an exchange programme with Lyon University and schools in Madrid where I organise reciprocal teaching opportunities for students and teachers. As part of an alternative learning experience , I support students in securing learning opportunities outside the usual primary classroom context, both abroad and in England. I have a particular interest in the development of the student experience, especially in the area of resilience and personal and professional development. I am also a governor at a local primary school in Canterbury which involves monitoring curriculum development and Early Years provision.

I was involved in coordinating local support networks for language development known as Regional Support Groups. I have organised workshops and training sessions. In my role as a link tutor I have led several staff meetings on the role of the mentor , in both national and international contexts.

I have been involved in language development projects. In particular CLIL, integrating languages within the curriculum. This involved working with international partners in Spain, Germany and France. I have supported Masters students and teachers in researching language development. Research activities included joint observations of language lessons to highlight areas of development and future support.

Attended the international CLIL conference in Ustron, Poland in April 2013. Co-presented a workshop on Integrated Language Learning. Invited to talk at several Secondary School open days on the role of the teacher.
