Professor Anne Nortcliffe

I am Anne Nortcliffe the Founding Head of the School of Engineering, Technology and Design

Anne originally graduated in 1991 in Chemistry from University of Sheffield, but after a placement in the Nuclear Industry Anne moved to Engineering, completing a MSc in Control Engineering at University of Bradford and Universidad de Valladolid, Spain. Anne has PhD a in pH Control of effluent from University of Sheffield. Anne has worked in software industry and academia researching and developing AI systems for Nuclear and Process Industry both for continuous and batch processes. Anne has over 25 years experience of engineering and computing education and research, including senior roles in Higher Education. Anne is passionate about educating next generation of engineering and computing graduates through an equal, diverse and inclusive learning environment and curriculum. Anne works with industry to address and meet regional skills gap. In each of her roles Anne is proactive in ensuring striving for excellence in both staff and student experience, and student learning.

Anne is also an active leader, innovator and researcher in engineering education, a committee member and active member of the UK and I Education Research Network. Anne is nationally and internationally recognised for her pedagogic research, particularly in employability, engineering education and technology-enhanced learning. Anne currently is PI of RAEng Research Grant to research and develop an Equal, Diverse and Inclusive (EDI) Employability toolkit.   This aims to increase the pipeline of women, Black, Asian and minority ethnic, and low socioeconomic status students to address the regional and national skills gap.

Anne is currently governor of Leigh UTC, Dartford, Kent.   Committee member and active member of the UK and I Education Research Network.   Contributing to the national agenda of developing equal, diverse and inclusive engineering learning environment and education through Anne's role as Operational Manager of the South East EDGE Hub, at Canterbury Christ Church University.  Anne is member of the Alan Turing Institute.
