Ms Alicia Beels

Lecturer in Digital Media

School of Creative Arts & Industries

I am a Lecturer based within the Digital Media BA programme and I specialise in Photography and image manipulation.

My main role at Canterbury Christ Church University is Lecturer in Digital Media and within this role I teach practical based modules each semester. The practical modules cover initial idea generation, workshops using industry specification equipment and using the associated software to produce the required outputs for the module assessments. I have experience in industry as a Photographer and Graphic Designer and wish to impart as much of this knowledge to my students to give them the best opportunity when they move into their desired areas of industry.

I also oversee the Digital Media Outreach Projects that we provide for schools and colleges. These projects consist of workshops based on elements of the Digital Media programme and give the students opportunities to use the equipment and software we have available. These workshops not only provide a taster of what the Digital Media programme has to offer but also of the University environment and facilities in general.

I began teaching as a Sessional Lecturer on the Digital Media BA in 2020, moving to Lecturer in Digital Media BA in 2022.

My research interests are predominantly around representation of deaf people in media, specifically in film and on social media platforms.

I have also provided stop motion workshops for the Beaney in conjunction with the Smallfilms Gallery opening July 2022.
