Dr Adil Imam

I am a sports engineering researcher interested in sports equipment design and testing. I am also the course director for General engineering.

I have been working at CCCU since September 2021 and my research is focused on the simulation and testing of sporting equipment and personal protective equipment.

I am a member of the International Sports Engineering Association and a committee member of the British Standard Institution looking at standards governing sporting personal protective equipment. My previous experiences involve researching skin injuries for World Rugby which lead to the changes in Regulation 12/ body padding specifications.

I have also worked at the International Tennis Federation as a Sports Engineer and in the oil & gas industry as a design engineer. I hope that I can continue researching the different innovations in sports while ensuring that the player safety.

My teaching focus is Computer aided Engineering, but also involves:

  • Engineering Product Lifecycle
  • Finite Element Analysis for Mechanics and Materials

My research interests include:

  • Sports Equipment Design and Simulation
  • Injury simulation and prevention
  • Finite Element Modelling
  • Static and Dynamic Analysis

Research Projects

  • Additive Manufacturing and Fabric Integration with Auxetic Structures creating a Metamaterial. Researcher(s): Miss Breeshea Robinson. Supervisor(s): Dr Adil Imam, Professor Abdullahi Ahmed. [Postgraduate Research Project]
  • From agro-waste to sustainable building material; A study on corn cob as an additive to concrete masonry blocks for reduced cost of building and improved indoor micro-climate. Researcher(s): Mr Francis Okeke. Supervisor(s): Professor Abdullahi Ahmed, Dr Adil Imam, Dr Hany Hassanin. [Postgraduate Research Project]

I am a Member of The International Sports Engineering Association and a Committee Member of the British Standards Institution.
