Anyone engaged in the study of tourism events is truly privileged; for it involves the study of those greatest ‘events’ of our life that can only be lived after they have happened and according to the measure of the novel possibilities for living that they open up to us, of the radical breaks that they allow us to make in the continuity of our everyday lives.

Welcome

The MSc Tourism and Event Managements programme offered by Canterbury Christ Church University here at Alexander College aims to provide students with a firm foundation of research-led teaching, innovative and blended learning methods, expertise-driven insights, as well as a clear commitment to guiding and supporting students and employability development at the postgraduate level. In particular, the programme is designed to equip students with the requisite knowledge and skills for assuming a leadership role in the tourism and events industry.

The Tourism and Event Programme aims to provide you with the opportunity to gain both comprehensive theoretical knowledge and an indispensable practical understanding of the key subject areas involved in the study of tourism events, allowing you to adapt your studies appropriately to your interests.

The programme also provides a rounded study of the principles of management and is designed to have immediate relevance and application in the current global market demand for more qualified leaders, whilst also providing potential for future progression in both study and career.

The programme is designed for those who have an interest in the tourism sector generally and are also keen to focus on the burgeoning field of events management. Events have become synonymous with tourism in recent years. They have become major visitation attractors, not only by making significant contributions to community pride and identity, but also by offering themselves as critical sites of questioning predominant socio-cultural identities and political economic realities. The study of events has therefore increasingly moved towards an appreciation of the transformative and self-transformative effects of these various sites of visitation and of their capacity to initiate a critical upheaval of the lives and histories of those people who visit them.

The programme is of particular relevance, though not exclusive, to recent graduates of Event Management, Tourism Management or related Business Management disciplines.

The MSc Event and Tourism Management programme has a September intake at Alexander College.
