Your Welcome Week is an essential introduction to your course and student life at CCCU, helping you to feel confident and prepared for your studies right from the very start.
It is important to check your Welcome Schedule for all the activities you are required to attend during the week.
If any of your welcome activities are in groups, your course team will contact you before your arrival to let you know which group you will be in.
UniTimetables provides an overview of all teaching activities on a course. Your individual timetable will be available via MyTimetable and is personalised to show you what modules and groups you are expected to attend.
Your individual student timetable can only be produced once you have engaged with online registration and created your computing account. It is essential you complete these tasks when invited, so that your course team can assign you to your teaching activities and publish your individual timetable.

If you use Instagram or Snapchat, if you play computer games or the latest music, if you binge on Netflix, or if you want to be a vlogger, then Media and Communications is the degree for you. We’ll help you design webpages, write copy and explore and apply techniques of advertising and public relations. We’ll show you how the media is regulated and how it works, as well as aiding you to reach as wide an audience as possible. As the media and communication industries continue to grow there will be many opportunities to find a career within them.
The staff and students on the degree are part of a wider community of creative practitioners in the School of Creative Arts and Industries that includes performers, composers, producers, game designers, photographers, and dancers. We hope you’ll take advantage of the opportunity to gain inspiration from this diverse group to help expand and enhance your own creative practice.

During Welcome Week, there will be a number of activities for you to get to know the academic team and your fellow students and we’re keen to welcome you to the School of Creative Arts and Industries. This is also where you will be told about your timetable and the groups for your practical classes. In addition, you will start to gain access to our materials on Blackboard, our online repository of learning materials for your modules. You will also be assigned a Personal Academic Tutor.
Your welcome and induction will be w/c 16 September 2024 - we look forward to meeting you then.
There are no set texts that we would like you read before you join us in September, but it is very good practice to engage with the media and think about how it represents the world. Look at recent awards ceremonies for music and film and think about how these creative industries are promoting themselves. How is professional media and social media responding to the shortlisted or nominations and who has been left out? What is their reaction to celebrities and stars, their relationships, their behaviour and their dress sense? Spend time engaging with the media, reading newspapers, magazines, listening to the radio and watching both online and traditional media. Start to follow media organisations such as the BBC, Channel 4 and The Guardian on your social media platforms and think about how you read and decipher the media messages.
It is useful to note that the University Bookshop offers 10% discount on most titles in print and have some price-beating book bundles. They also price match Amazon on core texts recommended in the module handbooks you will receive when you start in September.
International students: don't miss out! Make sure you register for our international student success programme which provides practical advice on preparing to live and study in the UK.
