My name is Marios Andreou and I am delighted to have the opportunity to introduce myself as the LLB Course Leader at Alexander College. I have been working in the field of Law for 25 years and I am proud to have guided so many students through their academic journey to success.

Studying law is a challenging yet immensely rewarding decision. Throughout your law studies at Alexander College you will not only gain knowledge of the law but also develop critical thinking skills, analytical abilities and a deep understanding of legal principles that will shape your future career.

The LLB programme will enable you to cultivate the skills, knowledge and experience to be highly employable. It will also give you the self assurance to shape your professional development, whether you have aspirations to practice law or enter a different field of employment.

Getting Started

This is a 3 year course and you will take six modules per year. Modules at year 1 cover some of the foundations of legal knowledge modules essential for a legal professional qualification. You'll learn about key legal areas such as:

  • Law of Contract
  • Criminal Law
  • English Legal System.

At this stage you'll also begin to develop core professional legal skills, such as using legal databases and developing your legal research.

Year 2 modules consist of :

  • Land Law
  • Law of Tort
  • Public Law

These will help you to further develop critical legal and analytical skills.

The six modules followed at year 3 particularly include:

  • Equity and Trusts
  • EU Law
  • Intellectual Property Law

These modules will further enhance your problem-solving skills. You will finally have the opportunity to prepare and submit a significant piece of independent research through the Dissertation module.

During your studies you will enjoy a range of delivery and assessment styles such as presentations, written course work, group/individual presentations, written examinations as well as role plays (mooting). You will also without a doubt find our virtual learning environment (VLE) an invaluable resource which will contain material you will need for each module.

Induction

During your induction week for the LLB program, you can expect a range of activities and sessions aimed at introducing you to the College, faculty, and the study of law.

At the scheduled welcome session you shall receive an overview of the LLB program, its structure, and what you can expect during your time at the College.

You'll have the chance to meet key faculty members, including professors, Personal Academic Tutors and administrative staff. This will help you familiarize yourself with the individuals who will support you throughout your academic journey. You will also be introduced to the various support services that will be available to you.

Short workshops will be set up on essential study skills for law students, such as legal research, critical thinking, and academic writing. These sessions aim to equip you with the tools you need to succeed in your studies.

There will also be a library orientation session to familiarize you with the College law library, its resources, and how to access legal databases and materials.

To help you navigate your new surroundings, there will be a guided tour of the College, including key locations such as lecture rooms, libraries, student services offices, and recreational facilities.

Employability

Our faculty and staff are ready to assist and guide you throughout your law studies. The student’s affairs department will help support you in your career exploration journey and will host employability seminars and training sessions to equip you with the tools needed to secure future employment.

This is the reading list for the two core Semester 1 modules that all LLB & LLB with another subject students will take. LLB students will also complete the module Law in Society during Semester 1, and LLB with another subject students will complete a module from the other subject that they are studying. If you are studying Law with another subject please see the Course Essentials page for your other subject area for any summer reading you may need to complete.

Books are available from the University bookshop at a discount, and you can buy them when you arrive. Alternatively, you might like to buy books from the current Year 2 students. You should aim to buy core texts and access the recommended titles as you need from the library.
