Welcome

Our degree program offers a diverse and dynamic learning experience led by industry-experienced teachers. We pride ourselves on offering a variety of teaching methods, including engaging demonstrations, group workshops, seminars, lectures, real-life briefs, and one-on-one sessions, so you can learn in the way that suits you best.

The course is taught in our dedicated graphic design studio spaces in the Daphne Oram building where you will have access to industry-standard software and a range of art and design technologies.

Your sessions will be led by a team of graphic design industry specialists who care about your passions, your interests and your work.

The staff and students on the degree are part of a wider community of creative practitioners in the School of Creative Arts and Industries that includes performers, composers, producers, game designers, photographers, and dancers, and we hope you’ll take advantage of the opportunity to gain inspiration from this diverse group to help expand and enhance your own creative practice.

Getting started

There are no pre-course materials for you to complete, however as creative practitioners, if not already, start looking at the work and ideas of others in the lead up to joining the course. This might be in publications, exhibitions, posters, logos, branding, social media or books. Find the work that you love, that inspires, that made you want to study Graphic Design and revel in it and your own practice will flourish.

If you don’t know where to look why not try these,

Creative online blogs and journals are a great way to keep up to date with latest trends and current creative news.

And of course, there is a wealth of content via YouTube and Podcasts to ease your curiosity before the course starts.

During Welcome Week, there will be several fun activities for you to get to know the teaching team and your fellow students. This is also where you will be told about your timetable and assigned a Personal Academic Tutor. This is a fully immersive course and you will need to work hard both in and out of class, but we know that you will enjoy the work a great deal, and that the things you will learn will help you achieve success.

Your welcome and induction will be w/c 16 September 2024 - we look forward to meeting you then.

Pre-course reading

There is no set reading that you need to do before you join the course. We have a fantastic range of new and old books in our library that you will have full access to when you join.
