You are probably wondering what you will study, and how.
Your first semester will contain a range of core modules aimed at providing you with foundational knowledge on key themes such as forensic theories and the criminal justice system.
Semester two will include crime scene investigation, investigative interviewing and – throughout the year - a series of micro credentials which will support you in your academic career.
Large groups are taught in lectures, breaking into smaller teams where you and your new friends might discuss theory and practice. The more practical modules, like CSI are taught in lecture theatres, the justice suite and a wide range of crime scene types (such as our bedsits, churchyard and elsewhere).
Do not forget to make sure you bring notepads, pens and your laptop (if you have one) to all of your sessions! Making your own notes will help you later when you wish to consolidate your learning!
University is more than books and lectures; it’s about exploring the world and where you fit in it, as well as your sports and interests which provide you with opportunities to develop skills and have fun outside of your studies. The Student Union (CCSU) has a huge range of clubs and societies – all of which have unique social calendars of their own and offer endless opportunities to make lifelong friends and discover new hobbies. And you can always create your own society and cultivate your own community!
CCSU will be hosting their Welcome Fayre on Wednesday 17th September 2025. Make sure you keep checking the CCSU website for further details and how to get involved.
We understand that you may be nervous about your first few weeks on campus but rest assured - you'll be joining a nurturing and supportive environment where diversity, equality and individuality are part of everything we do.
