Student Wellbeing Service

Preparing for a new academic year and returning to campus after the summer break can be a difficult readjustment. So, whether you’re starting to feel concerned, or are having financial worries, our Student Wellbeing Service are here to help.

The Student Wellbeing Service includes several teams that are on hand to help with disability, mental wellbeing, financial and general support to ensure that you don't face barriers and are able to benefit from the wider student experience.

There’s also a number of external support services available to you, so you can find the support you need when you need it. This includes self-help guides, out of hours support and more.

 

Disability and Mental Health Support

If you have a disability, or your disability has changed over the summer, make sure you get in touch with the Student Disability Service, so they can ensure any additional support you may need for your learning is put in place.

Here are some of the ways they can support you:

  • Provide advice regarding CCCUs service provision for different groups of students.
  • Arrange practical support (note-takers, special exam arrangements, accessible teaching rooms).
  • Advise students on internal and external funding opportunities for academic support.
  • 1:1 support.
  • Liaise with academic tutors and external providers to ensure you get the support you need.
  • Develop ‘Learning’ and ‘Placement Learning’ Support Plans (LSP/PLSPs).
  • Assist home students with Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) applications- this will require an external assessment.
  • Wellbeing workshops/plans.

You may also be eligible to apply for the Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs). These are UK government support funds for eligible students with physical and mental disabilities, including dyslexia and dyspraxia. The funding provided by DSAs can help pay for extra essential costs you may incur as a direct result of your disability.

The Student Wellbeing Service can help you in your DSA application, as well as provide other specialist support to assist you throughout your time at university.

Weekly wellbeing events

We know that taking time to connect with others is good for our wellbeing, so keep an eye out for the return of some popular wellbeing events to help you take time out and meet other students... Including the return of Chooseday Chill!

Chooseday Chill is an opportunity to relax over some free tea and toast and have a chat with other students and the Student Wellbeing Service.

Held on Tuesdays from 5-7pm in Augustine House, you can relax over some free tea and toast, play board games, try your hand at some crafts, listen to music or just chill. CCCU’s very own therapy dogs are also know to make guest appearances for some furry cuddles!

Studying at Medway Campus? Drill Hall Library hosts a range of events throughout the year to support you in looking after your wellbeing. This includes a regular session with Lynne, the Medway Campus Chaplain, called Chill & Chat with Lynne. Here you can connect with other students, play games and get crafty.

Chaplaincy

No matter who you are, where you’re from or what you believe, our Chaplaincy is here for you.

The Chaplaincy are a team of Christians who share in ministering to the holistic welfare of the University, whether that is through supporting our ethos, engaging in pastoral care or enabling people to follow and engage with their own religious traditions.
