To celebrate 60 years of transforming lives through education, Canterbury Christ Church University is launching new bursary and scholarship opportunities for prospective students.

The Diamond Jubilee Bursary will offer a £500 cash award to new UK students starting an undergraduate full-time degree with Canterbury Christ Church University in September 2022. There will also be Jubilee scholarships of £2000 for exceptional new students who achieve AAA or above at A Level or equivalent. Students who achieve ABB –AAB at A Level or equivalent may qualify for a scholarship of £1000.

Building on existing financial support schemes in place for students, the Diamond Jubilee Bursary celebrates and recognises the University’s commitment to offering an inclusive and accessible higher education experience. As well as decades of investment for its students, the majority of whom have come from local communities in Kent and Medway.

The Jubilee Academic Scholarships will also help to ensure that the most talented students can access local higher education and use their skills as graduates to continue to support and grow the region’s key industries.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Rama Thirunamachandran said: “Ever since the University was founded 60 years ago, the work of colleagues past and present has supported the belief that education has the power to transform lives. Today we still adhere to that belief. That is why we are delighted to announce a new Diamond Jubilee Bursary, along with the Jubilee Academic Scholarships, to support the next generation of students and continue to offer opportunities to individuals to enrich their lives and the world around us through the pursuit of higher education.”

Canterbury Christ Church University opened in 1962 as Primary Teacher Training College, in response to a regional shortage of teachers. Throughout its history the University has developed courses to support and enhance the economic, social and cultural life of Kent and Medway. Working with businesses and schools to improve access to higher education, training and continued professional development for individuals within the local communities and creating knowledge for a sustainable future.
