Congratulations on completing your academic year! We hope you’re looking forward to a much deserved break. To help you make the most of your time, here is your summer checklist…

1. Reflect on your learning

Now that the academic year has come to an end you can reflect on your learning so far – what has gone well, and where you want to improve.

Why not make yourself a list, while it’s still fresh in your mind, of the areas you want to work on in the next academic year. Whether that’s essay writing, referencing, presenting, completing exams, or time management, the Learning Skills Team have you covered. You could do some self-development over the break by completing a range of online modules on the Learning Skills Hub, or contact the team to arrange an appointment.

When it gets closer to the start of the next academic year, don’t forget to reach out to your Personal Academic Tutor to talk through the academic areas you’re hoping to develop. Plus, you can also complete a specific module on successfully returning to a new academic year, which will help you with the transition back to university.

Reassessment support

If you have a reassessment to complete over the summer, remember there is plenty of support available to ensure that you go on to succeed in your studies.

2. Set goals for the next academic year

The summer is the perfect opportunity to start thinking about goals that you want to set yourself for the next academic year, beyond your studies. This could be…

  • Finding part-time work with Unitemps to gain valuable experience and extra income!
  • Getting involved in student life at CCCU to make new friends and try something new.
  • Speaking to the Careers Team about developing your LinkedIn profile, gaining new skills, and preparing for the world of work. Plus, if you haven’t already, make sure you sign into Handshake – your online careers platform. Here you’ll find lots of useful resources, opportunities to network, and upcoming events. You can also book onto a range of workshops over the summer to support your future career (see below for some highlights!)

3. Look out for future you...

When the time comes to start preparing for your return to university after the holidays, you’ll be grateful that you have…

  • Bookmarked the Welcome Back Hub: the Welcome Back Hub will be a useful resource to refer to in August. Here you’ll find must do tasks, reminders of your support services, and changes that have happened over the summer – so you can feel ready to start the new academic year.
  • Have kept your Student ID card safe: make sure you put your Student ID in a safe place so that you can easily find it at the end of the holidays. Your future self will thank you!
  • Been checking your university emails for any important updates.
