New postgraduate course for clinical educators launches - a first for the region and KMMS

A new course for clinical educators in Kent and Medway is launching this autumn.
The Master's in Clinical Education is accredited by Canterbury Christ Church University and will be delivered by Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS). It is the first of its kind to be offered in the region and will be the first postgraduate course taught by KMMS.
This interprofessional course uses a flexible and hybrid approach, combining online and in-person learning to support health and social care professionals develop and enhance their skills as clinical educators. To enhance flexibility Post-graduate Certificate and Post-graduate Diplomas in Clinical Education will also be available.
The MSc Clinical Education will be delivered by a diverse team of experienced healthcare professionals from a broad range of academic disciplines. The teaching team come from clinical and non-clinical backgrounds and includes academic staff specialising in education theory and pedagogy, as well as experts in areas such as interprofessional learning, simulation-based education, and curriculum design.
This will be the first postgraduate taught course to be delivered by KMMS, following its opening in 2020. A collaboration between the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University, KMMS is the first medical school in region and was the only medical school in the UK to open during a pandemic. Its first ever cohort of students will graduate later this year, with over 40% choosing to remain in Kent, Surrey and Sussex as resident doctors via their postgraduate foundation programme.
Founding Dean of KMMS, Professor Chris Holland, said: “Launching the MSc in Clinical Education with Canterbury Christ Church University is a great moment for us, demonstrating the strength of our joint commitment to develop the next generation of medical educators in our region.
“This is also the first postgraduate taught programme that the medical school will deliver and the first such course in Kent and Medway. I am proud that KMMS is delivering it on behalf of Canterbury Christ Church University.”
