The collaboration, the first of its kind between a university and Curzon, has brought together film lovers, students and the local community through its popular Screen Talks film club. The fortnightly Monday evening events are hosted by an academic from the University, who leads a short discussion on the film being shown. Since its launch in summer 2024, Screen Talks has become a firm favourite with audiences, regularly selling out.

Curzon Canterbury Westgate Manager Emily Morgan said: “It's a real pleasure to be continuing our partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University, and to witness the community of film lovers who attend these screenings continue to grow!

“Each season of Screen Talks brings more excitement than the last, and this year is no exception, with our first special event screening taking place on November 3, where through the team at Canterbury Christ Church, we are delighted to be welcoming musicians who worked on the Oscar winning score for The Brutalist for a short pre-screening Q&A. We look forward to seeing Screen Talks continue to flourish in the years to come.”

Jane Milton is a Senior Lecturer in Film and TV at Canterbury Christ Church University, and co-lead for Screen Talks with colleague Dr Susan Civale, Reader in Romanticism. Jane said: “We’re delighted to continue working with the Curzon Canterbury Westgate on Screen Talks for another three years as it such a unique and popular partnership. We value the support from the Westgate team, as well as the enthusiasm from our local community, to engage with my university colleagues and explore the wonder of film and cinema. We hope to develop this collaboration further over the next three years with more initiatives that will continue to bring together our students and community through film.”

The renewed three-year partnership reflects both organisations shared passion for film, learning, and people together through the magic of cinema, and inspiring new audiences to discover a lifelong love of film.
