Getting Started

Make your arrival the best it can be by visiting your Welcome Hub. Please take your time to explore all the Hub has to offer:

  1. Find out your must do tasks: explore the step-by-step guide to becoming a CCCU student.
  2. Get study ready so you feel confident to start your new academic life.
  3. Find out how to make friends.

Supporting your arrival

  • Registration Hub, Augustine House, 13 January - 31 January, 10am- 4pm for admissions and registration enquiries, document checks by the Compliance Team and to collect your Student ID Card.

  • Welcome Hub in Touchdown, 20, 21 and 22 January, 10am -2pm for any general queries you might have.

  • The i-zone is your friendly student information help desk - if we do not know the answer to your question, we will know who to ask.

Your induction

Your course starts with an essential induction to help you settle into your studies. Beyond that, we’ve tailored specific activities to cater to the unique needs and interests of postgraduate and international students to ensure a positive start to your student expereince.

Postgraduate Students

The Graduate College provides a friendly, diverse and creative environment for postgraduate students. 

A great way to start and find out about what is available for postgraduates is by attending one of the Graduate College welcome eventsPostgradaute Welcome Event on 20 January and Virtual Postgraduate Welcome Event on 27 January

Top Tip for our CCCU Alumni students - you may already know all about CCCU, but these events will provide you with lots of new information on being a postgraduate!

Postgraduate Induction

If you missed the Welcome events you can watch your Postgraduate Induction to get an overview of the Graduate College and support available to you at the University.

International Students

We are committed to providing our international students with an outstanding education and supporting them to succeed in their studies. Make sure you explore the dedicated international students webpage for information on immigration, travelling to the UK, mandatory document checks, settling in and more.

Registering as an international student

If you are a student on a Student Route Visa, in order to receive your smartcard, you need to complete your registration in person. This is in addition to completing your details online via MyRecord

What to bring to your in-person registration:

  • A share code generated for study using the View and Prove service
  • Qualifications used for your CAS and student visa application.
  • Passport

The Compliance Team will be available to do document checks from  13 January - 31 January, 10am - 4pm in Augustine House. 

Organising your accommodation

It is vital that you organise somewhere to live before you start your journey to the UK. Why not check out the University accommodation – it is centrally located close to the University and a great way of making friends and settling in. Plus, all your bills are included in your rent, so you won't have to worry about energy cost or setting up your own Wi-Fi contract. For a CCCU study bedroom apply online.

International induction

Sign-up for the International Student Success Programme - a programme that provides practical advice on preparing to live and study in the UK. It is offered by Epigeum, which is part of Oxford University Press, and has been created in collaboration with students from universities across the UK, including staff and students at Canterbury Christ Church University.

Your International community

We can't wait for you to join our community. Before you arrive you can connect with other international students via our CampusConnect or International Facebook Group.

When you arrive come along to the Global Gateway in Augustine House from 10am - 4pm to meet the International Team and International Student Ambassadors.

There are a range of events for international students including welcome, support and drop-ins.

There are a range of resources available to help you become familiar with all the support services available at CCCU. 

Your Library

The library is one of the main places where you'll find what you need when studying, both physically within Augustine House, Canterbury, and Drill Hall, Medway, or online through LibrarySearch.

IT Services

Your IT services enable you to connect with the University using your Microsoft 365 account, download free and discounted software to help you with your studies, and access IT support and training. Here are some pointers for getting started:

  • Get connected to Wi-Fi: one of the first things you’ll want to do is access the University Wi-Fi. Eduroam is our free student Wi-Fi service.
  • Access your CCCU email: as part of your registration, you’ll be given a computing account to access your canterbury.ac.uk email address. All university-related email correspondence will be sent to your university email address, so you must check it regularly.
  • Explore Blackboard: our Virtual Learning Environment, or VLE, is known as Blackboard. Blackboard is your online learning hub and you will be given access when you arrive, here you will receive course information and resources, access recorded lectures and take part in online learning activities.
  • Download free software: as a student you can access all the software you might need for your course for free through our App Store or Virtual Campus PC.

Your wellbeing is important to us. That’s why we offer a wide variety of confidential support and advice throughout your time with us. If you have a disability or mental health condition remember to register with Student Wellbeing Team to ensure you get the support you need to succeed in your studies. 

Joining the CCCU Community

Follow your passions, share your interests, broaden your horizons, earn while you learn or discover something new – it’s all possible at CCCU, with so many opportunities to get involved.

Whether it is joining a Students' Union club or society, connecting with a peer mentor, coming along to a free event,or becoming a Student Ambassador there are lots of ways to make new friends.

Expect Respect

This Expect Respect Welcome Module will introduce you to the University and cover some important topics for student life, including building your supportive network, our Expect Respect campaign, staying safe and cultivating healthy relationships.

When you complete this module, you will be entered into a prize draw, with a chance to win some amazing CCCU goodies and experiences!
