The successful film club partnership between Canterbury Christ Church University and Curzon Canterbury Westgate will continue in 2025 with a host a films and expert speakers scheduled.

Running for more than a year, the Monday night film club has become popular with the public and students alike. The new 2025 line-up of films and introductory talks by Canterbury Christ Church academics include the 1996 award winning Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet, staring Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio as the star-crossed young lovers; as well as the multi-Oscar nominated true-life drama based on the Guildford pub bombings, In the Name of the Father.

The club starts on Monday 13 January with Emeritus Professor Kevin Ruane discussing The Quiet American. Based on the classic Graeme Green novel, this 1958 adaptation explores love, betrayal and the start of the American war in Vietnam.

Curzon Canterbury Westgate Manager Emily Morgan said: “It's been fabulous to see the growth of the Film Club this year, and we are delighted to be moving into 2025 with such a rich line-up! We look forward to this partnership flourishing in the new year - with faces both new and familiar!”

Senior Lecturer in Film and TV, and Partnership lead, Jane Milton said: “We're really excited about our new year line up. This partnership, which was the first of its kind in England, has grown in popularity with December’s film club a sell-out. We have such a variety of films and expert speakers for next year. We are looking forward to welcoming members of the public and our University community to join us at the Curzon Westgate for more enjoyable evenings.”
