Winter Wellbeing 2024
21 Dec 2023
We know that the cold days and dark nights can make it difficult to stay motivated during the winter and it can be tempting to just hibernate away from it all!
But we have a host of ideas, tips and inspiration to help you fight those winter blues and make the most of the new year.
We hope you are looking forward to meeting back up with your friends and classmates after the Christmas break. At CCCU there are plenty of warm, cosy spaces with free hot drinks to meet new people and connect with the wider community.
Don’t forget the Students’ Unions Hub which has facilities to get hot drinks, make your own toast, and heat up your meals in a relaxed friendly environment.
From Pet Therapy to Relaxations Sessions, Games Afternoons to Speed Friending, Crafternoons to Movie Nights the Medway Hub has lots of wellbeing events this Winter!
We know many of you have exams at the start of the year, but we have your back!
If you are studying in Augustine House, make sure you check out the StressLess Zone on the second floor. Relax on a bean bag, use the massage chair, read a book/comic, play some board games, try out some creative activities, and challenge your friends to a game of table football!
Check out our blog for how to be prepared for exams and don’t forget there is a range of support available to reach your full academic potential!
Join us on 18 January for the StressLess event which is all about mindfulness and relaxation with massages, colouring, painting, and more!
Taking regular exercise can lift your mood and increase your energy levels at this time of year. So even if you feel like just snuggling under that duvet it is worth making the effort to keep active – and we are here to help!
Discover new opportunities and enjoy uni life through Christ Church Sports and Active Health. Whether you simply want to give something a go, become a member of the gym, take part in a social league or sign up to one of the many fitness classes. There is a free week membership up for grabs in January!
And in partnership with Spectrum.Life, CCCU students have access to a digital gym including live and on demand fitness classes with a weekly schedule to choose from as well as workout and nutrition plans. Register now to the Spectrum.Life platform and mobile app using your Canterbury Christ Church email address.
Why not start the new year with a resolution to get the most out of your student life!
Personal Development Week for many will be on 22 - 26 January - this is your chance to take time to reflect on your learning so far, try something new, build your confidence, and set future goals.
And look out for the Students’ Union Refreshers Fayre in February. It is never too late to meet new people or take up a new hobby – with so many great clubs and societies on offer, there is something for everyone.
The Student Events Hub list all the different events happening on campus, so check out what you could get involved in this semester.
Not only are there major health benefits to completing Dry January (you can rest now, liver), but it’ll save you money and will give you the opportunity to try out something different rather than going to the pub. Find out how CCCU can help you during Dry January!
Your mental wellbeing is important to us - that’s why we offer a wide variety of confidential support and advice to help you out whenever you need it.
