Christ Church in top third of UK universities for environmental and ethical performance

Canterbury Christ Church University is delighted to celebrate being ranked in the top third of the sector in the People and Planet University League Rankings 2022.
The 2022/23 People and Planet University League, classifies 153 UK universities by environmental and ethical criteria.
CCCU has increased its ranking from 78th to 42nd place, improving by 36 places.
Director of Sustainability and Development Dr Peter Rands, commented on the results.
Sustainability is at the heart of our University’s mission and values and we are very pleased that our work has been recognised in the latest league tables. We are working hard to address local and national issues and The Academy for Sustainable Futures which launched this year, is based on ten years of pioneering work in sustainability. It has been created to engage the University in making a step-change in its drive towards educating, advocating, and influencing our collective sustainable futures.Dr Peter Rands, Director of Sustainability Development
Throughout its Diamond Jubilee year the University has been celebrating its wonderfully diverse community and exploring what it means to be a sustainable University. Activities have included:
- launch of the Academy for Sustainable Futures
- planting over 400 saplings to create vital hedging around the new Verena Holmes STEM building as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy, to encourage more birds, insects and other wildlife onto campus
- creating an International Forest on the border of the University’s sport fields at Stodmarsh, where native tree saplings were planted to create a ‘forest for the future’ by the University’s International office, international student ambassadors and international students
- refurbishment of the land on the Canterbury campus to build a Jubilee garden, creating an attractive and enjoyable space for staff and students.
