Nursing students involved in East Kent Mencap project
Canterbury Christ Church University nursing students and academics have recently featured in East Kent Mencap’s most recent video: Changing Kent Communities
The film, funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund, showcases the work of the District Partnership Groups in supporting people with a learning disability in Kent.
The University’s School of Nursing has taken part in the film showcasing a teaching simulation involving student nurses and local people with learning disability, acting as patients, in the Simulation Suite at its Medway campus. The simulation provides the opportunity for student nurses to practice admitting a patient with learning disability into hospital whilst making reasonable adjustments to their practice and communication skills. This simultaneously helps people with learning disability to feel more comfortable in a hospital setting.
Changing Kent Communities was also screened at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury last week with an audience of over 100.
