26 March 2015

A Canterbury Christ Church University Computing student has won a prestigious British Computer Society scholarship award worth £25,000 allowing him to fulfil his dream of becoming a computing teacher.

Steven Dodds is in his third year at Christ Church studying a BSc Computing degree, after completing a Foundation Degree, also at the University.

The scholarship was awarded to Steven after a challenging three month process. The first stage involved a subject knowledge test, followed by an assessment where Steven had to teach Maidstone Grammar School’s sixth form the process of error checking data transmission. At the final stage, Steven was interviewed by Metaswitch Networks, where his subject specialism and his educational aptitude were examined, relating to issues in teaching computer science in schools.
