Archaeology appoint Visiting Professor expert in European prehistory

27 January 2015

Professor Tim Champion has been appointed Visiting Professor for the Archaeology programme at Canterbury Christ Church University.

Professor Champion is a specialist in later prehistory of Western Europe, with additional interests in the history of archaeology itself and the wider public understanding of the past. At Christ Church, he will contribute to the teaching of the Bronze and Iron Ages and of the role of the past today and its involvement in social and political debate.

Dr David Grummitt, Head of the School of Humanities, said: “We are delighted to welcome Professor Champion to the University. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge that will not only enrich the experience of our students studying archaeology at Christ Church, but will also contribute to the research culture within Archaeology and more widely in the Humanities.”

Professor Champion is also currently Emeritus Professor of Archaeology at the University of Southampton and for several years previously was a member of the English Heritage Advisory Committee and the past President of the Prehistoric Society.
