Annual Portfolio art competition announces winners
17 March 2015
The University's Faculty of Education and the Turner Contemporary's annual art competition for Kent and Medway Schools and Further Education colleges, Portfolio, saw a record number of entries this year reaching 1200.
This year’s theme, This is Me, supports the current exhibition at the Turner Contemporary, SELF, which was visited by The Duchess of Cambridge last week as part of her visit to Margate.
The entries were whittled down to 158 artworks shortlisted for the competition award ceremony held in Augustine House Library on Wednesday 4 March.
Kerry Jordan-Daus, Head of Partnerships in the Faculty of Education, said: “The Faculty is proud to be working with the Turner Contemporary to support and promote this inspiring project.
“It was wonderful to see so many members of our community attend the reception. The quality of the work was amazing and is testimony to the hugely creative skills of the children and young people in our schools. This year saw two new categories, Key Stage 1 and a Special School Award which was sponsored by the Faculty of Education.”
The overall winners of the competition were Ethan Casagrande for the Key Stage 1 award, Auden Woodall for the Further Education award and Robbie Riddel for the Special School award. The winners will have their work exhibited at the gallery on Tuesday 28th April, which will be opened by Kerry. The young people, their parents and carers will witness the artwork being exhibited next to works by Sir Anthony van Dyck and Damien Hurst.
