New date for an audience with Sam Gyimah MP Universities Minister
16 February 2018
Sam Gyimah MP, Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation, will now visit our Canterbury Campus on Thursday, 8 March 2018.
The new date follows the postponement of his visit, originally arranged for Thursday, 1 March, due to adverse weather.
This will be the new minister’s first visit to a university in the South East, outside London.
During his visit to Christ Church, the Minister will tour the campus and then take part in an open and free question and answer event with students, staff and the community. Students and staff should also come ready with answers of their own as the Minister will be directing questions to the audience as well.
Anyone who originally booked to attend the question and answer session with the Minister will soon be receiving an email confirming that their booking remains valid for next Thursday’s event. There will also be some limited seats available for anybody wishing to book for the new date (see link to booking page below).
Vice-Chancellor of Canterbury Christ Church University, Professor Rama Thirunamachandran, said: “We are delighted the Minister is visiting us, to understand more about our strengths in widening access to higher education and our extensive contribution to the regional economy.”
‘An audience with Sam Gyimah’ will take place in the Michael Berry Lecture Theatre in Old Sessions House, Longport, from 6pm to 7.30pm on Thursday, 8 March.
Sam Gyimah is Conservative MP for Surrey East. He has wide government experience, having previously been the Minister for Prisons and Probation, the Minister for Childcare, the Minister for the Constitution, a Government Whip, and Parliamentary Private Secretary to former Prime Minister David Cameron.
He was appointed new Universities Minister on 9 January 2018.
