Christ Church ranked in UK top 50 for student experience

17 March 2016

Canterbury Christ Church University has been ranked in the top 50 of the best UK universities for student experience, according to the latest Times Higher Education (THE) UK Student Experience Survey.

The University is joint 47th out of a total of 117 higher education institutions included in this year’s THE survey, moving-up 31 places and in the top 10 for biggest improvements in the rankings.

Now in its 11th year, the THE Student Experience Survey looks beyond the usual definition of the student experience, such as teaching, learning, assessment and feedback. It includes a broader range of measures chosen by students themselves that includes those aspects of university life that matter most to them.

Professor Helen James, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education and Student Experience), said: “We are delighted to be placed within the top 50 best UK universities for student experience.

“The University works in partnership with students and the Students’ Union to ensure our students enjoy the best experience whilst studying at Christ Church. This new ranking, in addition to the University being shortlisted for the THE Most Improved Student Experience Award in 2015, affirms the work we are doing. It is important that we work together so we continue to improve the experience for all our current and future students.”

This year’s survey also shows that students are becoming more demanding of their university with a general growth in their expectations across all 21 measures assessed. Results show that students increasingly value and expect good industry connections, high-quality facilities and good security while also working harder, volunteering more, and doing further extra-curricular activities.
