Multimedia Journalism course wins industry backing and praise
06 May 2015
Journalism programmes at Canterbury Christ Church University have been described as 'exemplary' and delivering a 'rich learning experience' for students, according to the industry's main broadcast accrediting body.
The Broadcast Journalist Training Council (BJTC) praised the University’s Multimedia Journalism programme and awarded it full three-year accreditation starting from September 2015.
The move marks even greater success from last year when the Multimedia Journalism programme won a one-year accreditation, with the BJTC describing it as a ‘gold star’ course.
The BJTC said the University’s journalism team this year had crafted a rich learning experience with an industry-facing course. Online journalism was praised as being ‘a very strong part of this course’.
The visiting body watched students participating in live newsdays – an exercise designed to replicate what happens in real newsrooms. They described the students as making ‘nicely constructed packages’ producing ‘a confident level of reporting and live studio skills’.
Professor David Bradshaw, Head of School for Media, Art and Design, said: “The BCTJ is a highly respected industry body and for them to award a full three-year accreditation is a wonderful reflection on the hard work of our students and on the enthusiasm and dedication of our highly skilled staff.
“Our students love the course and derive a great deal of satisfaction from it. It is wonderful to see them now going on to take some great jobs in a highly competitive market.”
Careers Multimedia Journalism graduates have gone into include reporter for Sunday Times, Digital Spy and FTSE Global Markets; as well as researcher for ITN and news editor for Academy FM Radio.
