High profile sociologist to discuss twenty-first century society

Professor Lord Anthony Giddens, world-renowned British sociologist, will be visiting the University on Tuesday 3 March to deliver a public lecture exploring society in the twenty-first century.
In the lecture, Off the Edge of History: The World in the Twenty-First Century, Lord Giddens will speak about the complex tangle of opportunities and risk that face us in our current era.
Lord Giddens is one of the most famous British sociologists today. He is the author of over 34 books and one of the most widely read authors in the social sciences and humanities.
Sarah Cant, Director of Sociology in the School of Psychology, Politics and Sociology, said: “We are delighted and honoured that Professor Lord Anthony Giddens will be coming to speak to Christ Church Sociology students as well as the local community.
“He is a great orator and inspirational speaker. We know that the content of the lecture will be fascinating for our students and the interested public. His recent work concentrates on describing and explaining the contemporary world, capturing the contradictions and nuances of modern day living.”
The lecture will take place on Tuesday 3 March at 6pm in the Michael Berry Lecture Theatre in the Old Sessions House building on the North Holmes Campus. The event is free and open to all.
