Canterbury Christ Church University has just been graded Outstanding for its Further Education provision by a recent Ofsted inspection.
Following an intensive four-day inspection visit by 22 inspectors in March, the University partnership was also commended for: strong and effective strategic leadership, the drive for continuous improvement, the high quality of the central training, and high quality personalised pastoral support.
Dr John Moss, Dean of Education said: "Our Further Education team has achieved what really is an exceptional result: very few providers are graded outstanding for initial teacher education for this phase, and our team has achieved this working with 20 different partners across London and the south-east. It is a real tribute to our staff and their college partners. The University is very proud of them."
The training of primary and secondary school teachers was graded Good and many excellent features about the education courses were noted. Dr Moss commented: "Our commitment to continuous improvement was recognised by Ofsted. We will redouble our efforts with our partners to make all aspects of the training we provide together outstanding."
The University is particularly pleased that ‘the partnership’s innovative approach and its responsiveness to the changing educational landscape’ was reported by the inspection team. Canterbury Christ Church University has an exceptional reputation for responding positively to new initiatives and is working with many schools to provide School Direct teacher training introduced by the coalition government.
