Canterbury Christ Church University is celebrating the success of Senior Lecturer, Virginia Bower, whose book has been shortlisted for The United Kingdom Literacy Association Academic Book Award 2013.
Her book, Creative Ways to Teach Literacy, was put forward for the award and is now one of three texts shortlisted. The results will be announced on the 3 June.
Creative Ways to Teach Literacy is written for teachers and those training to be teachers. It aims to provide ideas to enhance the literacy learning of pupils aged 3-11 years old.
Virginia Bower, from the University’s Department of Primary Education, was very pleased with the nomination, saying: “I am delighted that my book has been nominated for the UKLA book award, particularly as this was a collaborative effort involving myself and members of the Primary English team.
“The United Kingdom Literacy Association does a wonderful job promoting literacy in both primary and secondary schools, and I feel honoured that this text has been shortlisted for one of their awards”

The UKLA is a registered charity supporting academic books and with the sole objective to advance the education of literacy.
The charity is focused on the practice of literacy teaching within schools and outside of schools. It members include classroom teachers, teaching assistants, school literacy coordinators, literacy consultants, teacher educators, researchers, inspectors, advisors, publishers and librarians.
