15 October 2012
The Burton Gallery, at Canterbury Christ Church University's Broadstairs Campus, will this month host an exhibition by photographer Mike Owen.
For over twenty-five years Owen has been photographing the faces that have defined the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
His portfolio spans music, beauty, fashion, advertising and video and he has worked with musicians such as Duran, Duran, Spandau Ballet, Dusty Springfield, Morrissey and Kylie Minogue. He remains Annie Lennox’s photographer of choice.
Other celebrity clients have included Pavarotti, Dame Shirley Bassey, Keira Knightly, Sienna Miller, the Spice Girls and the Beckhams to name a few.
His exhibition at The Burton Gallery, Welcome to Wonderland, uses images that were originally commissioned by the French fashion house, Spector, in the 1980s. In close collaboration with French fashion designer Roland Mouret, Owen produced a set of images that overtly draw upon the original Lewis Carroll text, but surpassed the commercial necessity of the images to portray Owen’s interest and commitment to Surrealism.
The Burton Gallery is located at the Broadstairs Campus, Canterbury Christ Church University, Northwood Road, Broadstairs, CT10 2WA. The exhibition is open from 12 October to 2 November 2012. Entry is free.
