31 August 2012
An inspiring, dynamic and thought provoking exhibition by final year Masters students from Canterbury Christ Church University will be unveiled on Friday 7 September 2012 at the Sidney Cooper Gallery.
Artist's work on display at the exhibition
'The Lightest Light, the Darkest Dark' features a collection of work from eight artists studying MA Fine and Applied Arts, and will see a combination of sculpture, paintings and graffiti.
Bob Stone, Programme Director, said: “What these graduating artists have at their core is an understanding of how and what comprises identity. Their work allows us to see entirely different perceptions of this through their individual portrayal of the world.”
The exhibition will include examples of post-feminist soft mermaid sculptures tinged with darkness, portrayed through a melted Barbie doll.
Artwork on display at the exhibition
A life-sized white mannequin with a ringing telephone head will also be a prominent piece, whilst graffiti covers a suburban lounge in an installation that will provoke a shocking realisation of urban areas.
Painted personal myths, including hamburger GI Joes and bible inspired monkey Popes will also challenge the visitor’s imagination and interpretation.
The exhibition is open to the public from 8-22 September 2012.
Admission is free of charge. The Sidney Cooper Gallery, St Peter's Street, Canterbury CT1 2BQ, is open to the public Tuesday to Friday, 10:30am to 5:30pm and Saturday 11:30am to 5pm. The Exhibition will be closed Sunday and Monday.
