Press Release

08 May 2012

A partnership between Canterbury Christ Church University and Whitstable animation studio, Animate & Create, has received a nomination for one of this year's prestigious Culture Awards.

The partnership has been nominated for the Commercial Collaboration Award, for ‘showing a mutually beneficial and productive partnership’ between organisations.

The Culture Awards were created to recognise the important role culture plays within the communities of the Canterbury District and to celebrate the broad cultural scene in the City and across East Kent.

Animate & Create and Canterbury Christ Church University have worked together since early 2007, when Animate & Create was formed, before forming an official partnership in 2010. Both organisations share a common goal in the promotion of learning, teaching and student employability through cultural activity.

Dan Richards, Creative Director of Animate & Create Studios, said: “Animate & Create are really proud of our partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University and this award is great recognition of the projects we have collaborated on.

“Over the last year we have worked with schools across Kent producing animation workshops; given students from the Media, Art and Design Department experience by working with us on commercial projects and of course Christ Church is the Principal Sponsor of Animated-ED, part of the Canterbury Anifest festival which is also hosted at the University’s Augustine House.

“All of us are looking forward to a great night and hope to build on this nomination with further collaboration between the University and our studio.”

It is the second year running that Christ Church and Animate & Create have received nominations for the Culture Awards, with both organisations winning their independent categories last year.

Christ Church won last year’s Commercial Collaboration Award for their partnership with Canterbury Festival, whilst Animate & Create were named as the One to Watch Award winner.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the University’s Augustine House on Thursday, 21 June, 2012.
