A Canterbury Christ Church student has been awarded the Soundcraft Student of the Year award for outstanding musical achievements made whilst studying.

Andrew Chua, a third year student studying Music Production at the Broadstairs campus was awarded the prize at a gig at Horizons, the campus’ venue for music and events performances.

Andrew was praised for his outstanding improvement, commitment and attitude to his studies.

Talking about his award, Andrew Chua said: “I am very grateful and appreciative to Soundcraft for the Student of the Year award and am truly honoured that my work from the previous year has been recognised. 

"This award will spur me on to better myself in my final year of studies.”

Andrew won an MFXi mixer, a versatile piece of production equipment specifically used for live sound.

James Shears, Tutor for the Live Sound module at the University, said: “The Live Sound module at Christ Church gives students an opportunity to develop a well rounded understanding of all the basic principles involved in running live music events. 

"It’s great that students become familiar with this technology as I have no doubt that they will go on to use many more Soundcraft consoles in their future careers."

James Dean, Programme Director for Commercial Music and Music Production at Christ Church, said: "Soundcraft have a very highly regarded reputation around the world in the area of pro-audio technology and we are excited to be developing a relationship with them.

"Links with major manufacturers in the music industry opens up some great opportunities for our student's future careers and we are extremely grateful for Soundcraft's generous support of this annual award."
